Team for Leicester
|
A massive test, this game. Third against fourth - who would have thought it? Given the likelihood of Liverpool making it into the top four, the only way we are also going to make it is if we can displace Leicester, which is achievable, but it's going to have to be a bloody good run-in and a top performance in this game to get to one point behind them. Look at their last 3 games compared to ours and you'll see why I think it can be done.
As far as I know, it's good news and bad news on injuries. The bad news seems to be that Antonio is out and Ogbonna still isn't ready, but the good news is that Lingard and Soucek are OK.
So I think the main issue is going to be whether we stay with a three at the back with Arthur at LWB, or a four at the back with Benrahma on the wing. Arthur did some good things at Wolves but by his own admission was struggling for fitness. A close call but I would go for Benny for his ability to carry the ball forward. A big concern is the loss of height due to the absence of Rice and Antonio, which makes us less effective at both attacking and defending set-pieces. Let's hope this team can continue to surprise us.
Fabianski Coufal Dawson Diop Cresswell Noble Soucek Fornals Lingard Benrahma Bowen

I'd go again with wingbacks as it gives us a bit more protection with noble in midfield. ideally I wouldn't pick him but moyes seems to want to start him, so three CBs will help

Sure moyes will go 3 at the back now Arthurs back, as he did when we beat em 3-0 at there place and Just like he did for both games against wolves.

Without being too negative...
I don't want us to set up for a point but agree with a back 5 and a point here and at Chelsea are both acceptable results
Stopping Leicester get a bigger gap in front and Chelsea in close to us with the Champions League commitments will be enough to bring it down to the last 2-3 games

Without Rice you have to play a back 5.

100% correct that you can't play Noble and a back 4, it would be complete carnage!
Need to protect him with bodies and get him on the ball.
We're actually quite lucky that Masuaku has come back at the same time as losing Rice, get Ogbonna back in for Diop and we're looking defensively sound for the final 8 games.
Fab Dawson Diop Cresswell Coufall Soucek Noble Masuaku Bowen Lingard Fornals
Play Antonio if fit instead of Bowen Play Ogbonna if fit instead of Diop Get Rice back for final 5 games
CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!

Fair points about sticking with a back five due to Noble. So Justin P's team will probably be the one.

they streamed a training session yesterday and ogbonna looked in good shape, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him back (although it's not worth rushing him). yarmo is back jogging but is a few weeks away

I really like the cresswell, Arthur, fornals combo down the left. Fornals going infield allowing Arthur to overlap works really well and still allows cresswell to deliver crosses from deep as well
Benrahma does need to step up in these final games now though - we need him at his best and showing his goal threat (and chipping in!). Everyone needs to come in at the top of their game

I think he will go with Justin P's team and wouldnt have many issues apart from Noble getting over run from Tielemans and Ihanecho. Alternative

I really hope fornals plays
For retaining possession, movement off the ball, vision and passing I think he’ll be vital against Leicester

TM - I'm pretty sure Moyes said in his interview that Ogbonna would be available for the Newcastle game. Could have been a cunning plan...

Fabianski
Balbuena Dawson Cresswell
Coufal Soucek Noble Masuaku
Lingard Bowen Fornals
Personally, I'd rather see Lingard drop in alongside Soucek and Benrahma come into the side, but appreciate there is no way that will happen.
I'd also bring Balbuena in for Diop...Diop just has too many lapses in concentration, and Balbuena deserves a shot alongside Dawson.

I would go with Stubbo''s team. I would like to try Johnson instead of Nobes sometime as I think he could do that job. But this game is not the one to experiment and Noble deserves to retain his place after his last game.

Ogbonna on the bench to bring on for last twenty to ensure we hold on having gone 3 up from a first half Benrahma hat trick.
